Parts of my life......

We all have 'things' we have as part of our everyday life apart from family, friends, pets etc. Here are just a few of mine.....
A charity shop find, its an old and battered wind up Westclox but it keeps reasonable time and I just love its tick tock, I find the sound so soothing.
My Willow wand that my daughter brought for me a little while ago. I was going through a difficult patch in my life and my daughter thought this may help to remove the bad things and encourage better things...

My endless piles of books...... I just love my books. I have piles awaiting my OH to put up a bookcase so they can be tidied and filed , cannot wait!!

My aromatherapy essential oils. I am not a qualified aromatherapist so only dabble personally, but if I could become qualified it would be a dream come true for me. It is a bit too late in my life to do this now, so will just have to carry on dabbling and dreaming!!

My composters... I love composting, organic gardening, recycling etc.... My composters are now more or less full to the brim, one of which is ready for my a new herb bed I am planting. Then I can use that during the winter for household scraps. I have two more composters around the other side of my garden and If I could I would fit in more !!

My love of herbs, thus the new herb bed as mentioned above. I am in the process of a Herbal Medicine course to have a better understanding of herbs. I have always been attracted to herbs and essential oils and grow lots of herbs in the garden. I use a lot in cooking and teas etc. I grow herbs for the butterflies and bees etc and I have a comfrey bed for using in composting, but I want to have a better knowledge of their uses. Because I cannot get out much I am doing this online course which is very interesting.

My treasured greenhouse... which now need winterising as I call it! Cleaned out and insulated. I must get that done asap, running really behind this year!!

My garden shed (OH has his own shed) I would be loathe to show you inside at the moment. I do have shelving fitted and it was all tidy and organised. I even have flooring down and my spare freezer in their. But when my daughter moved out she did not take everything and asked me to store them in my shed. Sadly they are still their so I can hardly get in or out and what is on the shelves I cannot get to!! I nag about it weekly but it seems to fall on deaf ears. Sigh!!! at least I can get to the freezer!!

Well that is just a few things that are part of my life.... I realised as I did this post I have so much more, but thought enough was enough for today!!

Oh Jane, what a great idea, and a lovely glimpse into your life! I especially love the willow wand, and I have the 'Fragrant Pharmacy' book too. I did a short aromatherapy course a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. It didn't give me a qualification or anything, but I have found it so useful to use the oils around the home for various things. As for it being 'too late' for you to do a course, it's never, ever too late!!

You have your own shed?!!!!! I would love that, but my family would probably never see me! Basil looks as though he wants his own shed too!! I'm hoping to get a greenhouse soon though - I wonder if I'll get a bargain as it's coming into winter?

What a great idea! A list of objects that I treasure! I don't have a shed (we call them 'outs' here, but I do have a MAGIC BARN - a huge, two hundred year old barn and it's magic because you can just go in it, with a thought in your head about what you might need and something, or something close, will show up there. I am going to make a list, too - sort of a count your blessings list to counter act the pervasive and horrible economic news here.

Its NEVER too late to do what you dream of!

I spent 15 years as a Research Scientist, then ran my own Environmetal Consultancy but after we moved over to Herefordshire to Compost Mansions I grew Organic veg for a few years. I then got some compensation money from a car accident and decided to do what I had always wanted...I retrained as a Holistic Therapist, in Aromatherapy, IHM and Body massage.

Having a child and intervening life and poor health has prevented me from working as much as I wish in the field, BUT I can honestly say it has given me SO much useful and rewarding insight and knowledge in so many areas...

and I didn't do my courses until I was 38, and got pregnant with Compostgirl part way through the courses, after 15 years of marriage. So I can probably thank the Holistic courses for that as well!

willow, Thank you so much for your lovely comments. I just love aromatherapy and burn oils around the house most days. I will have to stock up soon. I also use them for bathing in etc..
I am 51 in January and I really do think I have left it far too late. Not even sure if I could afford a course.
Yes I am really lucky to have my own shed... though OH has the deluxe stone shed. But my little green shed suits me fine. Just got to get my daughters stuff out and I can go to town. May even make a curtain for the window!! Though with my sewing record could be safer to buy one!! Good luck with the greenhouse hunting. I hope you get one soon, I am quite sure you would really enjoy it, I lose myself in mine to be honest.. In the summer I often potter around in the greenhouse early in the morning with my dressing gown on and my first cup of tea... Its turning into my retreat!!

Hi Shirley.. please can I swap my beloved greenhouse for your MAGIC BARN!! I need a bit of magic at the moment. How absolutely wonderful a two hundred year old barn, what an absolute treasure.. it sounds wonderful. I want oneeeeeee!!! (stamps feet and screams!! lol!!)
Look forward to your list.. its a good way to take ones mind off the horrid news and credit crunching!! I cannot stand listening to it to be honest.... think I would rather be an ostrich when the news comes on.. think having my head in sand would be preferable to all the depressing/scary stuff that does not want to go away at the moment!!

Hi compostwoman,
You lead such an interesting life. You are so clever and good at what you do. I would dearly love to do the full three year Aromatherapy course which I believe covers all aspects of massage also. Sadly as much as I want to do it I would not be able to afford the course. Also I am 51 in January and would be 53ish when and if I qualified.. I sadly do think its too late for me. You were only 38 years young when you did your courses big difference to my 51... so I think this has got to remain one of those dreams and if onlys.....
How wonderful for you to fall pregnant though!! you must have inhaled to many oil vapours!!!!
Thanks for your lovely comments... and just to let you know what a lovely breath of fresh air you are!!

I just love your list! It has so many parallels with what would be on my own list. Perhaps I shall have to do one of my own...

I am of a mind too to say that it's not too late to follow your dreams. Potentially, you have years and years and years ahead of you to study and practice what you love although I can only imagine how horrifically expensive it would be to train. I love the wand, the shed and the oils but the ticking clock would be flung out the window very quickly!

On my blog I have done a thing where I post "5 good things" it is about counting ones blessings I suppose! It really makes one think , on even a horrible day, that there is ALWAYS 5 things ( or more) that are good about the day!

I have lapsed from posting lately ( not because I don't have 5 good things, just I am posting about other stuff!)

but you have reminded me about all the good things I have, and value, in my life. They should be shouted about to the tree tops! Essential Oils, Books, Compostbins, Gardens, Sheds, ( Polytunnels in my case!)

THANK you Jane! I have a similar list to yours ( yes it IS spooky Leanne, the things we all have in common! we would all get on SO well if we met, I guess!)

I shall make a list in your honour and call it "Aromatic's List"

moonroot, thank you for the lovely comment. I would love for you to compile a list. I may be tempted to do another one soon. Jane xxx

Leanne it is amazing how so many of us are so alike. The new greenhouse will be something else to look forward to in your new garden. You will love your new home Leanne, especially after you have put your own stamp, so to speak to the place... you will end up I am quite sure being very happy and contented!! Jane xxx

Thursday, thank you for the lovely comment. I imagine it would prove to be a very expensive course.. and I its something I would most certainly not be able to afford, especially now we are in this dire credit crunch. Ah well a girl can dream! Glad you liked my things.. I loved your comment about the alarm clock, it did make me laugh.. I know exactly what you mean vthough, mine tends to go across the other side of the bedroom floor when it go's off at getting up time!! lol!! but this tick tock is so gentle it kind of lulls you to sleep.
