Basil update....

Poor Basil is still poorly, unfortunately he has had yet another stomach upset. I thought he was improving on Monday and resumed his painkiller but that turned out to be a mistake, after speaking with our vet he has confirmed that Basil's stomach is still far too sensitive after the previous upset to tolerate the painkiller he has to take for his hip pain at the moment, so I have to omit giving them to Basil until Friday, this means that any exercise has to be very limited until Basil is able to resume the painkiller. Basil is so tired, I hate to see him like this......

The vet believes that Basil has most certainly developed a food intolerance due to all the upset his stomach has experienced over the past twelve months. We have decided that Basil is to remain on his diet of chicken and rice which he really enjoys and seems to suit his extremely sensitive stomach. The vet is going to find a multivitamin which will make up the nutrients lacking in the bland chicken and rice diet and in six months time Basil will have a blood test to see if he is getting enough nutrients in his diet and if necessary adjust them accordingly.

Get well soon Basil xxx

Oh I'm sorry to hear Basil's no better Jane - hopefully he will recover when he's back on the chicken and rice. It must be so hard for such an active dog not to be able to run around. You're doing such a fine job with him - he must know how much you love him!

Willow, Compostwoman, Slice of life, Greentwinsmummy, and Leanne Thank you so much for all your lovely comments. Basil is slowly improving regarding his stomach upset. But his legs are becoming very stiff and painful now especially after sitting/lying down. But we have been told yesterday by the vet to leave off his painkillers until Monday to allow his tummy to settle properly. Fingers and toes will be crossed that the painkillers will not be rejected by his digestive system when he begins them again, if they are rejected it will create another upset stomach...
And that will cause a major problem regarding the management of his hip pain... its so worrying!!
Basil loved all your loving vibes and hugs ... thank you!!

I just found your blog - it's December 5 and I hope Basil is feeling a bit better by now.

I had to do a double take when I saw his pictures - we have a border collie too and he's the same brown/red, but with just a touch of white. His name is Strider. You can see him in a quick little video clip on my blog in this post (he's right after the kitten): http://inconsequentialblogger.blogspot.com/search/label/fall

Give your good doggie a pat for me.
